Government of Telangana Partners With Bal Raksha Bharat for Promoting Better Girl Safety

Bal Raksha Bharat congratulates the Government of Telangana for promoting a culture of comprehensive safety of children and women in schools and colleges across the state. The government, along with the Women Safety Wing, has partnered with Bal Raksha Bharat and Lead Life Foundation for the implementation of a 2-year long ‘Volunteering Programme’. This programme aims to establish well-equipped, youth-led ‘Safety Clubs’ to cater to children, girls, and women. This pilot project of the state will rest on the collaborative effort of the citizens and the police and will add more eyes and ears on the ground, thus promoting better Girl Safety.

The Telangana Police Safety Wing, headed by Inspector General of Police, Ms. Swati Lakra launched a pilot project on ‘Volunteering Programme’ in 5 colleges: Badruka College of Commerce And Arts, Arora Degree and PG College, Jagruti Degree & PG College, Sreyas Institute of Engineering & Technology and Indira Priyadarshini Govt. Degree College for Women in Hyderabad City.

Dr. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to AP & Telangana (Chief Guest for the day), Ms. B. Sumathi, IPS, DIG Women Safety Wing, Telangana; Ms. B. Seshu Kumari, Director, SCERT, Telangana State; Dr. Manjulata, Joint Director, Commissionerate of College Education and Mr. Ajay Singh, Founder, Lead Life Foundation and Vikas Gora, Deputy Director – South HUB, Bal Raksha Bharat, India were the guests of honour for the launch.

Dr Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, mentioned, “It is the need of the hour to give the power to the youth to take on the responsibilities of making our community safer place for girls and women. Safety Club will be a great opportunity to channelize the youth energies in addressing girls’ safety issues”.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Swati Lakra, Inspector General of Police, Law & Order, I/c. Women Safety, said “After listening to the young audience, I feel motivated and encouraged that we can make Telangana safer place for girls and women. Women Safety team is going to work closely with the young students to ensure the safety and security of girls”.

More than 3000 students from 12 colleges, Telangana Police Department, SHE Teams, Media, and many more participated in this historic launch. The implementation of this 2-year long ‘Volunteering Programme’ will ensure an establishment of well-informed youth-led ‘Safety Clubs’- for children, girls, and women in each educational institution and cascade it across the state. The objective is to promote a culture of the comprehensive safety of children and women in schools and colleges across the state through safety clubs, which will add more eyes and ears on the ground and help in building citizen police approach.
