In Delhi’s North District, a transformative initiative unfolded as Bal Raksha Bharat, implemented the Comprehensive School Safety (CSS) intervention across 50 schools and 10 informal community settlements. The Home-School-Home approach aimed to sensitize and empower children, youth, and communities to foster resilient schools and slums while raising awareness on climate change.

One remarkable facet of this intervention has been the Climate Change Model, a platform where children became architects of change. In Sultanpuri, young minds were encouraged to create science models showcasing the impact of climate change and innovative ways to combat it.

Manav’s (S.B.V.S Block Sultanpuri) ingenious model Source of Energy, showcasing-hydroelectric energy, wind energy, bioenergy and solar energy—captivated his classmates and teachers alike. His mission, to reduce energy consumption, adopt green energy, combat pollution and safeguard the future.

Varsha and Khushi’s (SKV C-Block Sultanpuri) model of ‘Green City’ painted a vivid picture of climate change’s repercussions—rising temperatures, melting glaciers, and heightened pollution. They proposed solutions like battery-operated cars and green building construction, urging a collective effort to reduce our carbon footprint.

Vanda and Sneha (SKV –C Block Sultanpuri) crafted a climate change model to highlight its impact and propose mitigation solutions. They emphasized the rising atmospheric temperature, pollution leading to glacier melting, rising sea levels, and threats to animal life. Their message was clear: without timely carbon reduction, we face an increase in future disasters.

To address this, they showcased practical solutions—advocating for battery-operated cars and promoting green building construction. These initiatives, they believe, can effectively reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a sustainable, disaster-resilient future

Model on the Effects of Global Warming, by Mayur, Aditya and Dashy (Govt Senior Secondary School P Block Sultanpuri) unveiled the dangers of ozone layer depletion, these children warned of harmful ultraviolet rays and the potential for chronic diseases. Their model underscored the urgent need for collective action to address global warming and protect our health.

The science models resonated beyond the classroom, earning admiration from peers, school authorities, and the community. Inspired by the children’s enthusiasm, the school principal pledged to make such activities a regular occurrence, even proposing an inter-school competition.

The impact went beyond admiration. Students took a personal stance, resolving to promote public transport and reduce plastic use in their families. The success story echoed not only the triumph of innovative ideas but also the power of collaboration and shared learning experiences.

The school Principal expressed gratitude to the Bal Raksha Bharat team, acknowledging the platform’s role in shaping innovative ideas and fostering awareness among stakeholders. The Climate Change Model became a beacon of hope, proving that, indeed, the future is in capable hands—those of the children committed to a greener, more sustainable world.
