In a significant development in the area of child rights, three villages in Nalanda district of Bihar have been declared child labour free, a unique feat perhaps not achieved by any other district in the state. This has been made possible due to the efforts of Bal Raksha Bharat.

Together with our local partner ‘Jeevika’, we launched a campaign against child labour in 50 villages of Harnaut block of Nalanda in 2011. We engaged women of village organizations to connect every family to government-sponsored social security schemes like old age pension, subsidized ration etc. Over a period of time, poor and deprived villagers started getting benefits of those schemes and they gradually withdrew their children from working as labourers.
