Eldest of all her 5 siblings, 14 years old Shanti* was born in an extremely poor household. Worst hit when her mother’s ignorance led her to get convinced by some pimp in her village, and sent Shanti to Delhi, through that agency. The poor girl had to stay in a fearful situation in her employer’s house, for three long months. She was made to do all the hard household work and was not paid a single penny for it. Bal Raksha Bharat along with the support of our partner Bharatiya Kisan Sangh did rigorous phone tapping to get her information. Our joint efforts finally led to her rescue in July 2016. She was then safely escorted to her village in Jharkhand.
Shanti is now an active member of the Children Group in her village. She is working towards a ‘Child Friendly Village’, where no one is ever trafficked and face the ill-fortunes that she once faced. She is now working towards generating awareness among children. She regularly interacts with the Child Protection Committee members for children who are in vulnerable situation. She is interested in continuing her education in residential school of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalay (KGBV).
Bal Raksha Bharat has formulated children groups and Child Protection Committees that conduct regular meetings. We also take up awareness activities like street plays and do orientation of children on Life Skill Education through ‘Lalitha –Babu’ Module. Along with the support of our partners we also take-up enrolment drive for out of school children along with ensuring the safe rescue and repatriation of trafficked victims.
