The lastest data released by the National Commission for Women states that within a week after the lockdown began on March 24, a total of 257 complaints relating to crime against women, have been received by its Complaint and Investigation Cell. Talking about it Radha Chellappa, Bal Raksha Bharat Deputy Director – Poverty and Inclusion, said “In the lockdown period, as in the present situation, Gender Based Violence gets compounded, as the perpetrator and the victim, women and children, may be living under the same roof with no place to go. Thus, the victim may be subjected to violence more, throughout the day, (Sexual, physical and psychological) by her intimate partner/husband and his in-laws.”
