MARRIAGE – NO CHILD’S PLAY
Child marriage is a major problem in the state of Odisha. This leads to a host of ill-fated events in these girls’ lives like early pregnancy, high infant and maternal mortality rates that lead to a basic lack of awareness of sexual and reproductive health rights. We conducted this project in Bihar, Rajasthan and Odisha. We targeted everyone from law enforcement agencies to families, especially the male members to ensure that people understood the very real risks of child marriages. From strengthening help desks at police stations to sensitizing peer support to providing scholarships or start-up support to 14-19 year old married girls, we have a holistic approach towards their future and growth as individuals. Our aim, which is to empower the youth and give them agency to make their own decision to marry is extremely significant to achieving adolescent well-being.
