Balasore, a coastal district in north-eastern Odisha, sits at the edge of the Bay of Bengal and borders West Bengal. Its fertile lands and rivers make it a vital region – but also leave it highly vulnerable to natural disasters.
In the past few days, relentless rainfall in the upper catchment areas of Jharkhand, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore has triggered a severe crisis. Over 6,00,000 cusecs of water were released from Chandil Dam and Galudih Barrage, causing rivers like Subarnarekha, Jalaka, and Budhabalanga to swell dangerously.
The result: a devastating flood-like situation across six blocks and one urban local body of Balasore —
Basta, Jaleswar, Bhograi, Baliapal, Balasore Sadar, Remuna, and Jaleswar Municipality – putting lives, homes and livelihoods at risk.
Thousands of families are stranded. Children need food, clean water and safe spaces.
Your support can save lives in flood affected areas in Odisha.
People Affected – 10,000
Children Need Help – Education kits, Child-Friendly Spaces, Hygiene awareness with hygiene kits
Hectares of Crops Lost – 6,00,000
