RESILIENT AND CLIMATE SMART CHILDREN IN KERALA

In August 2018, Kerala saw its worst floods in more than a 100 years. More than 480 lives were lost, 140 people went missing and about a million people were evacuated from different districts. It was declared a Level 3 calamity. In August 2019, the floods returned. However, this time, the various villages were on red and yellow alert and thousands of people were evacuated. We are committed to protecting children caught in an emergency and ensuring their safety, education and psychological well-being within such a situation. Hand in hand with Kudumbashree we worked towards building a disaster and climate change resilient community along with the children. We also facilitated district level training of village changemakers by Kudumbashree’s master trainers. Implementing it with the government ensured longevity and impactfulness of the project.
