Promoting Gender Equality for a Better Future
Bal Raksha Bharat believes that it is critical to directly address gender discrimination and promote gender equality in order to advance the vision for a world where every child attains their equal right to survival, protection, development, and participation. The Bal Raksha Bharat’s “Gender Equality Policy” seeks to advance gender equality in Bal Raksha Bharat’s aspects of work and across our organization. This also includes building understanding and capacities of the staff so that gender transformative process can be incorporated effectively.
Bal Raksha Bharat India has been mainstreaming gender in all its programme, campaigns and engagement with various stakeholders.
Some snapshot on our work related to gender equality:
The Marriage: No Child’s Play, a multi-state project in of Bihar, Rajasthan and Odisha, adopted a multi-pronged approach of equipping adolescents with necessary skills and information, increasing their access to services and opportunities, while at the same time shifting social norms related to child marriage, SRHR and gender equality.
SPEAK UP-Say NO to violence against Women and Girls project implemented in Punjab and Haryana aimed to create awareness among the communities on Gender Based Violence.
Bal Raksha Bharat study “WINGS -‘The World of India’s Girls’: A study on the perception of girls’ safety in public spaces” examined the underlying gender stereotypes of adolescent boys and girls aged between 15 and 18 years and parents of adolescent girls. It further unravels the ‘Perception of safety for the girls’ among the boys, parents and even the girls themselves must be understood in the context of prevalent norms and patterns of societal behaviour.
Bal Raksha Bharat India launched the “#AllyUpForHer” campaign with an Instagram live with various gender champions. The campaign aimed to spotlight violence against women and girls, in partnership with “Yuvaa”, an organization focused on innovative storytelling. The campaign highlighted that for too long, gender safety has been a fight only fought by women and strived to engage men to partake in the conversation as equal stakeholders. Digital reach of the campaign: more than 4.3 lakhs.
Bal Raksha Bharat, and Yuvaa teamed up for the “#LightUpHerLife” campaign to spread awareness of gender safety concerns arising from inadequate public infrastructure and illuminate streets to make them safer for women.
Bal Raksha Bharat partnered with the Government of Jharkhand on the World Bank-supported “Tejaswini Project” in advancing the socio-economic development of young girls (14-24 years), through Life Skill Education training.
